Good morning everyone!
What a wonderful morning! It is advent!
We are waiting.
Waiting with a great hope!
The evenings fall early.
The sun rises late.
It is a time of darkness.
And we are waiting for a great light.
Let us listen to the story of Christmas
with the help of this advent calendar.
We will now open the first window of the calendar:
It all began with Mary. A young woman living in Nazareth.
Let us follow her on her journey.
Let us go on a journey ourselves to meet Christ our Saviour. |

Window 2
It all began with Mary.
She lived with her family in Nazareth. |
 |
Window 3
God sent an angel to her who greeted her:
You are truly blessed! The Lord is with you.
Don’t be afraid. God is pleased with you.
You will have a son and his name will be Jesus. |

Window 4
In the town, there also lived a man, called Joseph.
He was kind and wanted to marry Mary.
He got worried when he heard that she was pregnant and did not know what to do. |

Window 5
But the angel came to him in a dream and told him not to worry. The angel told him:
“Mary is expecting the Son of God.” But the angel came to him in a dream and told him not to worry. The angel told him:
“Mary is expecting the Son of God.” |

Window 6
So Mary and Joseph got married. |

Window 7 & 8
They lived in a small house. Joseph was a carpenter and Mary looked after everything. They were happy together. |

Window 9
One day, the Roman emperor ordered all the people of Palestine to go to their hometown for a census.
Mary and Joseph had to go to Bethlehem.
They got the donkey ready and left for a long and difficult journey.

Window 10
Mary and Joseph travelled from the small town of Nazareth in the north of the country all the way to Bethlehem, a small town just beside Jerusalem

Window 11&12
It was very busy in Bethlehem. People had travelled from far and beyond.Mary and Joseph knocked on every door but every bed was gone. There was no place at the inn.

Window 13
At last they found a kind man: I have a stable nearby. I have just cleaned it out. You can use it. You will be out of the cold and out of the wind.Come with me, I will show you!

Window 14
As they came near the stable, they heard a cow mooing, a camel smacking his lips and the gentle bleat of a lovely lamb.. oh and look, there is also a little hen cackling away, saying: welcome, welcome, welcome! Great to have you here!! |

Window 15 But for the rest, all was quiet. It was late, and the mice were sleeping. |

It is dark, it is quiet, the cat has given up on catching the mouse. The stars are out in force.We are waiting. |

Window 17
Mary and Joseph settle in the stable. She is happy to lie down after the long journey. Joseph gets everything ready because he knows Mary’s time is near.

Window 18
It is a night of great events! And the angel shouts with joy!! The brightness of the Lord’s glory flashes all around him. |

Window 19
The angels sing in choir for the people on earth:Don’t be afraid, I have good news for you which will make everybody happy! |

The shepherds jump up from their sleep. They said to each other: Let us go to Bethlehem and see what the Lord has told us about! |

The little sheep bleated and jumped. They ran around in joy!

Far far away in the east, the wise men had been looking in their books, had been looking through their telescopes. What was happening? What did it mean? There was something different… a big star, a beautiful star.Let us follow the star!!!

They took their camels, they took gifts…A bright new star! A sign of a new King!! |

The shepherds and the kings,Gathered in a lowly stable. With joy in their heart.With hope!Ready to greet the newborn king.

And so it was that Jesus, the son of God was born in Bethlehem, bringing hope, bringing love.Let us welcome him. Let us bring hope.Let us bring love. |
