Bealtaine
Bealtaine music group, established in 2002 in the Church of St. Thomas the Apostle, Laurel Lodge is well renowned for its versatile and creative music, which enhances the liturgy for Sunday Mass. Along with the RTE television mass production, Bealtaine has sung for many special occasions in the parish, including the memorable midnight mass which is introduced by a traditional Carol Service each year at Christmas. Bealtaine's next musical project is the making of a liturgy friendly CD in Kairos Studios in Maynooth with music to suit all occasions.
Rosalind O'Dowd, Director says the group, consisting of thirteen members, keyboard player, violinist and harpist are very dedicated and a pleasure to direct. The plan now is to extend the number of participants as follows. Bealtaine requires:
- Two female singers
- Two male singers
- One guitarist
- Other instrumentalists also welcome
Bealtaine sings for just two Sundays in the month only, at the 12.15 Mass. There is a short and efficient practice on Thursday evening. A couple of times in the month, the group works through vocal training and development exercises which in turn strengthen the singing voice. If you are a singer or a musician and wish to partake in a venture with a difference, you will find it a most worthwhile exercise and a most rewarding one.
