Dublin
15 Hospice now have their own site at www.dublin15hospice.ie
The
official launch of the St. Francis Hospice Dublin 15 project
took place on Tuesday, 10th February, 2004 in Blanchardstown
Shopping Centre. Thanks to all involved and to those who
attended. |
Why? |
Since September 2001, St.
Francis Hospice has been providing
the hospice services for the Dublin North West area. In 2002, there were
3,400 visits by nursing staff to patients and families in their homes
in Dublin North West and over 50 patients were admitted to the In-Patient
Unit in Raheny. A large number of patients from Dublin North West also
attended the Hospice Day Care in Raheny. A dedicated team is assigned
to the Dublin North West area and includes Medical and Nursing Staff,
Social Workers and Chaplins. Serving the needs of patients in Dublin
North West from Raheny is not ideal and there is a clear and pressing
need for a dedicated hospice facility in this area. |
Where? |
A possible 2.3 acre site for the new Hospice has been identified in
the Dublin 15 area. This site has the potential to accommodate the new
Hospice buildings, to facilitate adequate access and also proximity to
James Connolly Memorial Hospital. St. Francis Hospice is liaising with
both Fingal County Council and the Northern Area Health Board with regard
to this project. |
What? |
The new Dublin 15 Hospice will include the three essential hospice
services - Home Care, Hospice Day Care and In-Patient Unit. The Dublin
15 Hospice will be built to the same standard of excellence as the St.
Francis Hospice in Raheny, which has won a number of architectural awards. |
When? |
Building of the first phase of the Hospice development will commence
with construction of facilities for the Home Care and the Hospice Day
Care services. This will enable a more efficient service to be provided
to the people of Dublin North West from within their own community. Following
completion of these immediate requirements - and depending on the rate
at which funding will be raised - the remaining required facility of
an In-Patient Unit will be constructed. |
Who? |
The Dublin 15 Hospice will be under the management of St. Francis Hospice,
who have a proven track record in providing an excellent standard of
hospice care, through the services provided at the Raheny Hospice since
1989. |
How? |
Whilst
St. Francis Hospice receives some revenue funding from the Health
Board to cover ongoing costs, it currently does not
receive any funding
towards capital costs, such as the building of the Dublin 15 Hospice.
There is no charge to patients for any of the services provided by
St. Francis Hospice, so the Hospice very much relies on the generous
support
of the community. The projected cost of building the Dublin 15 Hospice
is circa €14 million - therefore, a major and sustained fund-raising
effort is required. |
