TOY SUNDAY - December 3rd
Sunday next is Toy Sunday. Children are being asked to bring a new toy wrapped and labelled by age and gender i.e. Age 5 - Girl. The toys will be delivered to Mountjoy Prison where they will be given by the women to their children at a party organised by the prison. The men will give presents to their children on their Christmas visit. Thanks to all the children for their kindness.

CARPENTERSTOWN CRAFTERS - Christmas Fest!
This Sunday, 26th November from 10a.m. 'till 2p.m. in Laurel Lodge Community Centre. All welcome.

The local group of Amnesty International will distribute leaflets next weekend asking you to write a brief message on a Christmas card and send it to a person who is unjustly imprisoned in some part of the world. Such a greeting can give great hope to a person in anguish.

Third Level Event - 'AIM HIGHER' exhibition at ITB, Blanchardstown on Tuesday, 28th Nov. in the Sports Hall from 10am to 3.30p.m. Official launch at 11.30am by Minister Brian Lenihan T.D. All welcome.

Penance Service Rite 11 will be held immediately following the 6.30 Saturday evening Mass during Advent.

Thirty First Sunday in Ordinary Time

'Pass it On' - Book Appeal for Liberia
Castleknock Community College is the venue for the schoolbook appeal for Africa. A 20 foot container will be positioned in the grounds of the college on Wednesday next 8th November and Thursday 9th November from 12noon until 6p.m. They will be very happy to accept all unwanted schoolbooks and pencils (excluding Irish language books)! All books must be boxed - no bags please.

The cost of shipping a container to Liberia is €3,000 and if you would like to contribute towards this cost please drop your donation into the Sacristy and we will pass it on for you. Log onto www.militarychaplaincy.ie for further details of the work being carried out by the Army Chaplains in Liberia.

St. Thomas' Bethany Bereavement Support Group are having an Open Evening on Tuesday, November 7th at 7.45p.m. in the Day Chapel. All are welcome and the speaker will be Mr. Peter Hanlon, Bereavement Therapist.

The Cecilian Theatre Arts Musical Society Laurel Lodge presents 'Fashion Frenzy' Fashion Show in Castleknock Hotel on Tuesday, November 21st at 8p.m. Tickets are €25 each and may be booked in advance by contacting 01-8213760. The 8.00p.m. Mass on November 2nd will be a special Mass of Remembrance and Service of Light for deceased relatives and friends of this community who have died since last November. Where known, we have written to all who have been bereaved during the past year. Please enter the name of your relative or friend in The Book of Remembrance located on the tables at the back of the church so that they may be included in the Mass of Remembrance on Thursday, Nov. 2nd.

First Communion Focus Mass
Next Sunday the 10a.m. Mass is the last of the First Communion focus Masses. A time to give thanks for a lovely year of preparing and receiving the Sacrament. Hope to see everyone there!

Castleknock Community College Parents Association will be holding their very successful annual Plant Sale in the college on Saturday and Sunday next 13th and 14th May from 10a.m. to 6p.m. A great variety of summer bedding plants, hanging baskets and window boxes, tubs and shrubs, wooden, ceramic and terracotta garden accessories will be available. There will also be a Coffee Shop & Cake Sale.

SECOND SUNDAY OF EASTER

Mass for the coming week: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday at 10.00a.m. (note no 10 o'clock mass on Wednesday because of Confirmation).

The Sacrament of Confirmation will take place on Wednesday next, April 26 at 11a.m. We invite all parishioners to pray for the Confirmation candidates in these last days of preparation. There is no 10a.m. Mass on that day.

Easter Pastoral Offerings: Easter Pastoral Offerings are still being handed in. Thanks to all who have already contributed.

Child Protection & Support – Parish of St. Thomas the Apostle. An open meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 2nd at 7.30p.m. in the Day Chapel to discuss the whole area of Child Protection & Support. A member of the Parish Pastoral Council will address all Masses next Sunday to give further details.

Carpenterstown Park Residents Association Annual General Meeting will take place on Thursday next, April 27th at 8p.m. in the Day Chapel.

The total amount collected during the Easter Ceremonies for the charity Open Heart House was €3,340. They have asked that we convey their heartfelt thanks for your generosity.

Castleknock College Open Night for Parents of Prospective First Year Students – (September 2007) – will be held on Thursday next April 27th at 7.30p.m. and finishing at 9.30p.m. approximately.

The local conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul would like to express their sincere thanks to parishioners for their generosity towards the Sunshine Fund collection held on 8/9th April. The amount collected was €3012.75.

The Feast of the Divine Mercy will be celebrated in Our Lady Mother of the Church, Castleknock this Sunday. Ceremonies will commence at 2.45p.m. and will conclude with Mass at 6.00p.m. Leaflets available at the back of the church.

Lenten Reflections
A series of Lenten Reflections will take place on the four Mondays in Lent. The Day Chapel is the venue for the first talk entitled ‘Christian Meditation’ and will take place at 8p.m. All welcome. On Monday, March 13 the topic will be Islam and will take place in the Church of Ireland, Castleknock also at 8p.m.

The pupils of 6th class will join us for the 10a.m. Mass on Ash Wednesday. The pupils of 3rd 4th and 5th will receive the ashes in their classrooms. They will come for Mass early the following week. Please look at their diaries. It would be great to see as many (grand)parents, minders and neighbours as possible.

Signs of the Time – Women’s Day of Prayer Friday, March 3rd at 8p.m. in St. Thomas the Apostle. Retreat for Confirmation Candidates
Will you pray for the 3 classes preparing for Confirmation. They will each go for a day's retreat to Dalgan Park this week. Next Sunday they will share some of their reflections and new insights with us during the 10a.m. and 5.30p.m. Masses. An opportunity for all of us to celebrate with them. The Confirmation Preparation Team could do with a few more Faith Friends. Contact Jenny after Mass if you would like to get involved.

ACCORD

Archbishop Diarmuid Martin has formally announced the appointment of Fr. Michael Cullen as Parish Priest of this parish. Fr. Cullen's appointment takes effect from the weekend of February 25th/26th 2006. We all wish him well in his new position.

Congratulations to the Nurses and Organising Committee of Connolly Hospital who took part in the bag packing event in Dunne's Stores recently. The amount collected was €7,777 and was in aid of the Dublin 15 Hospice Building Fund.

Thanks to all who attended and supported Fr. Eugene’s Retirement Celebration. The function was sponsored by the Castleknock Hotel & Country Club together with significant sponsorship from local business people and sporting organisations.
